Fish for thought
Fish for thought is a series discussing the solutions KnoxFish is seeking to provide. to the Knoxville Market.
Retail aquarium stores from around the country go online to a large scale distributor and order fish from across the country. Those fish are then packaged, and overnight shipped to the stores doorstep for a hefty fee.
Once the fish arrive at the store, it is commonplace for a percentage of each order to be sick, injured, or even dead on arrival. It has been proven that live fish do not ship well, even with expensive insulating packages and overnight shipment.
These problems during shipment often result in a store having to quarantine fish for up to a week before sale. This prevents selling fish that are destined to die.
This all results in higher costs for the store and eventually the direct consumer.
KnoxFish Model
The KnoxFish model takes these six hectic steps, and simplifies them to four cost cutting points for each order.
First, the retail store can place their order on KnoxFish’s e-commerce store or over the phone. Orders are starting on a per transaction basis, or as a subscription deal, where we will deliver a set amount of each species on a custom timeframe.
Our next step is Quick Packaging. We do not need tons of heat pads, water treatment, or other equipment to ensure survival. This means we are able to put the fish in bags that are much quicker and easier for the store to acclimate the fish to their systems.
Our third step is speedy delivery. We deliver fish on via a route that maximizes efficiency for gas and travel time for that days orders. This step is our biggest differential from the wholesale competitors, as it no longer requires the insanely high overnight shipping costs.
Once the fish arrive at the store, they are ready to sell. This is because our fish have not experienced a long day of travel that could compromise order health. Our fish are breeding in a closed systems, completely isolated from disease and fluctuating water conditions. Buying fish from us ensures there is zero quarantine time.
